Where findings come from
What the agent consults for a finding. A source that does not answer contributes nothing.
When a case opens, the agent gathers before it concludes. Cogentic writes every call the agent makes to the case, with the request it sent and the response it got back. Findings cite those records, and you can open them.

Risk breakdown
Sources are grouped by what they can answer rather than by which vendor answers them. One vendor often serves several of these, and several vendors can serve one.
| Source | What it answers |
|---|---|
| Address attribution | Who an address is understood to belong to |
| Transfer analysis | What a specific transfer touched, and how close |
| Transfer history | What an address has done over time |
| Alert lookup | The vendor's own record of the alert that opened the case |
| Sanctions screening | Whether a subject appears on a published list |
| Customer verification | What a KYC vendor holds about a declared customer |
| Your customer registry | Who, if anyone, has declared this address to you |
| Balances and pricing | What the address holds, and what it was worth |
| Adverse media and open sources | What is publicly reported about a name or an address |
| Your documents | SOP sections, and anything uploaded to the case |
Opening a source
Each finding lists the sources behind it. Open one and you see the request that went to the vendor and the response that came back. You see the call itself, not the agent's summary of it.
Open the source when you disagree with a finding. The response tells you whether the vendor said it or the agent inferred it.
When a source does not answer
A call can fail, time out or never run because nothing was configured. Whichever it was, the source contributes nothing: no finding and no entry in the list of what was consulted.
If a failed call appeared as a source with nothing in it, anyone skimming the case would count it as a check that came back clear. You never see coverage you did not get.
Why the same vendor can carry two different weights
Whether a source may back a decision depends on whose account the call ran on. A vendor queried on your own account produces evidence. The same vendor queried on Cogentic's account produces a lead, which can point you somewhere without justifying an outcome.
An auditor reading a case from eighteen months ago sees the weights that applied then.

What a finding is, and what the two badges on it mean. Only one of them affects what you can decide.
Why a sanctions screen can come back unavailable
Unavailable is not clean. It means no list answered, and the agent will not close a case on it.
Connecting a vendor
An investigation calls the vendors you have connected and no others.
