Why an agent does the first pass

The first pass of an investigation is gathering. Cogentic does that part before you open the case, and shows its working so you can check it.

Open a case and it is already full. The agent ran before you got there. That order is deliberate.

The first pass is gathering

Before anyone can judge an alert, somebody has to go and collect things. The screening result. What the counterparty is attributed to. What your SOP says about this pattern. Whether the address belongs to one of your customers.

That work is mechanical and it is the same every time. It is also most of the time an alert costs. The agent does it, and concludes nothing until all of it is in.

The split is the point. The agent writes no finding until it has consulted everything it can reach, so a finding never rests on a source it had not yet read.

Nothing is concluded until everything above it is in.

It gathers the same way every time

Every address on the case, against every vendor you have connected, on every run. Volume does not make it selective, and a quiet-looking alert gets the same treatment as a loud one.

When something cannot be reached, the agent records that it could not be reached. The agent records a sanctions screen nobody answered as unavailable, and will not recommend closing the case on it.

You can check all of it

Every finding carries the sources it came from. Click one and you see the request that went to the vendor and the response that came back, not the agent's account of it.

A gathering step you cannot audit is one you have to repeat.
